A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former National Organiser aspirant, Henry Osei Akoto, has advised Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament of Nsawam-Adoagyiri, to seek legal redress if he feels aggrieved about recent parliamentary elections.
Osei Akoto criticised Annoh-Dompreh, urging him to refrain from what he termed as “misbehaviour.”
He emphasised that the proper avenue to address grievances is the court, stressing that the NDC itself is still contesting certain parliamentary outcomes from the 2020 general elections through legal channels.
“Annoh-Dompreh should stop misbehaving and go to court. NDC is still in court due to seats they stole from us in 2020. If you think your rights have been infringed upon, go to court. We can't put the transition on hold because you lost your seat. Nsawam Adoagyiri or Ghana is not yours,” Osei Akoto stated in a social media post on December 12, 2024.
His remarks come amidst disputes over parliamentary results in the just-ended 2024 elections.
Meanwhile, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to suspend the ongoing transition process.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Annoh-Dompreh emphasised that the transition process should be suspended and only resume once the Electoral Commission has declared all the pending results from certain constituencies.
He said that ensuring all results are properly declared will ensure a credible and trustworthy transition process, free from any allegations of fraud.
He further urged John Dramani Mahama, the President-Elect, to call his party supporters to order and allow the Electoral Commission to carry out its work without interference.
“From today, the EC has spoken and the message of the EC is that they need a security platform to be able to declare the results. Let me appeal to the outgoing president His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo we know he has set in motion a transition process. As a matter of course we want to appeal to the president, he who comes with equity must come with clean hands so the transition process should be halted.
“His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should halt the transition process and President-Elect John Dramani Mahama must show the same equity, speak to his people and we must ensure that all the other outstanding seats are declared duly by the EC before the transition process goes on,” he said.
To reinforce his point and concerns, the Majority Chief Whip stated that the Electoral Commission has requested a security platform from the security agencies to facilitate the announcement of the pending results in certain constituencies and the declaration of winners of the parliamentary seats.
Annoh-Dompreh asserted that the delay in the declaration of results for some constituencies by the Electoral Commission could be attributed to invasions, destruction of some EC offices and pressure exerted by supporters of certain parties.
“The narrative from the EC is that they need a security platform to pronounce on the results and to declare the due winners of the various constituencies ie, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, and Fantiakwa North,” he said.
Annoh-Dompreh urged the security agencies to protect lives and property from further destruction and loss caused by angry mobs on rampages.
“We are grateful to the IGP for a show of responsibility and their quick response to our call and to the CDS who have brought enough military men to offer us protection. We want to make a further call to the CDS and the IGP, as the law mandates it is one of their core responsibilities to ensure that lives and properties are protected,” he added.
The EC is set to re-collate results from some constituencies, including Akwatia and Nsawam Adoagyiri.
