The Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency in the Western Region, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lost his seat to the National Democratic Congress' (NDC), Philip Fiifi Buckman.

Dr. Armah, who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, garnered 13,317 votes, falling short of Mr. Buckman’s 15,927 votes. An independent parliamentary candidate in the constituency secured 1,835 votes.

Ahead of the elections, Kwesimintsim NDC Constituency Chairman, Kwasi Nyarko, had predicted a resounding 55% victory for Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman. This outcome marks a significant shift, as the NPP had retained the Kwesimintsim seat in the last two general elections.

Kwesimintsim now joins other constituencies in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to swing to the NDC, including Sekondi, which the NPP also lost.

This loss means Dr. Prince Hamid Armah will not serve a second term, having failed to retain the seat he won in the December 7, 2020 elections.

The total valid votes cast in the constituency stood at 31,079, with 219 rejected ballots.

Counting and declaration of results are still underway in various constituencies following the closure of polls nationwide.

The 2024 general elections, held across 276 constituencies, have been largely peaceful, although isolated incidents of violence have been reported.
