President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured that the upcoming December 7, 2024, general election will be free, fair, and transparent.

Speaking at the grand durbar of the Anlo Hogbetsotso Za festival on Friday, November 2, 2024, the president promised to hand over to any of the presidential candidates who emerge as the winner.

He emphasized that the peace and tranquillity that Ghana has enjoyed over the years would be protected throughout the election period.

“As we all know, without peace, there can be no proper development. The peace we are currently enjoying is the peace that we will carry through to the elections on 7th December.

“I want to assure the people of Anlo, the people of the Volta Region, and the people of Ghana that the forthcoming elections in December are going to be free, fair, transparent, and peaceful,” citinewsroom.com reports.

He added, “And on the 7th of December, I will hand over the baton of national leadership to whoever the people of Ghana choose to succeed me.”

The president also expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and people of Anlo for their unwavering support and prayers throughout his presidency.

He extended his heartfelt appreciation to all Ghanaians for maintaining peace during his tenure.

The president has come under intense criticism after making comments that suggested he would be handing over power to his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.

He once stated that he would not be handing over power to former President John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, whom he claimed does not like him and would destroy all that he has achieved.
