2024 elections: Vote with your conscience - Archbishop Adonteng Boateng advises as he arrives in Ghana

Archbishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng, a Ghanaian-American theologian, preacher, and philanthropist, has urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to vote with their conscience in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport on June 20, 2024, the General Overseer of Divine Word International Ministries emphasized the importance of integrity in the electoral process, advising against being swayed by monetary incentives.

"Ministry today should not be just about preaching but about helping people and changing lives. If I can affect one or two people and make their tomorrow better, it's more valuable than touching the whole country," he said.

The archbishop, who recently gained international recognition for rescuing a young boy from a fire in the United States, stressed the need for voters to consider the long-term impact of their electoral choices rather than immediate financial gain.

"People should not take money to vote for anyone. If people are taking money or even weed to vote, the country will never find true progress. Leaders should come to power because of their intelligence and their ability to lead, not because they have money to pay for votes. Use your conscience to vote," he urged.

Addressing pastors who are entering the political arena, Archbishop Boateng warned against conflating religious duties with political ambitions.

"Pastors should not get too involved in politics. You might have your choice, but a pastor who has a congregation to feed should not directly get involved in politics. It is damaging, and African politics is very dirty," he stated.

He also reflected on the lack of recognition for heroic deeds in Ghana, contrasting it with his experiences in the United States. He expressed hope that Ghana would begin to acknowledge and celebrate everyday heroes, motivating citizens to contribute positively to the nation.

Archbishop Boateng's arrival at the airport in Accra was greeted with excitement by Rev. Obaapa Christy, Rock Ladies, and admiration from the gathered crowd.
