An Oncology Nurse Specialist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Naomi Oyoe, has been named among the top ten finalists for the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.

The prestigious award, which received over 100,000 nominations from 199 countries, was instituted to recognise outstanding nurses based on their dedication, leadership, and contribution to healthcare in their respective countries.

According to graphic.com.gh, Oyoe was selected alongside a Kenyan, Khadija Mohamed Juma to compete with other healthcare professionals from different parts of the world.

The overall winner of the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, to be unveiled at a grand ceremony on May 26, 2025, takes home a whopping $250,000.00 cash prize in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The selection of Ghanaian Naomi Oyoe, together with Kenya’s representative, Khadija Mohamed Juma, signals a significant milestone for the healthcare sector in Africa.

Oyoe, who is the Head of Nursing at Ghana’s National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, is being recognised for her groundbreaking contribution to cancer care across Africa.

With over 23 years of experience, she has played a pivotal role in advancing specialist oncology training in Ghana.

Her mentorship has shaped more than 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast care nurses. In 2015, she helped develop the country’s first postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum.

Oyoe’s impact goes far beyond Ghana’s borders as she is a member of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and serves as a co-investigator on the Global Bridges Oncology Grant.

According to the report by graphiconline.com, she is also a global faculty member for the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Multidisciplinary Cancer Management Courses.

Her dedication to advancing cancer care has earned her several accolades, including the Ministry of Health’s Excellence Award and the Dr Dorcia Kisseh International Award.

“Their stories demonstrate extraordinary courage, innovation, and commitment to community health, whether it's transforming cancer care or revolutionising blood donation systems. These nurses are redefining leadership in healthcare,” Dr Azad Moopen, founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, lauded the impact of the two African finalists.
