Daniel Fenyi is the Public Relations Officer of GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that the results of the 2025 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) reflect the learning abilities of the candidates.
Speaking on JoyNews on December 1, 2025, following the release of the results, which have sparked national conversations due to the low performance recorded, Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for GES, admitted that the results are a cause for alarm.
GES sets record straight on 2025 WASSCE results amid public debate
According to him, it is worrying because students have been trained for three years and well prepared by their tutors to sit for the exam, only to produce poor results.
Fenyi said he believes the situation is an indication of a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
“… That is actually the case, that the results you see are a true reflection of the competencies of our learners. Even though it is concerning, you wouldn't train your learners for three good years, take them through all the lessons, teach them, expose them to all the necessary books and content they have to be exposed to, only for them to churn out these results.
“I mean, for any genuine education system, any genuine person interested in the progress of our learners, this result is quite worrying,” he stated.
Fenyi also stated that the GES agrees with the results released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). He highlighted the active role played by the GES and its close collaboration with WAEC, explaining that GES staff are deeply involved in the conduct of the examinations.
“Indeed, we perfectly agree and not that we just agree, we work closely with WAEC. The examinations are conducted with largely our students and then the invigilators, the supervisors, are largely our staff and so, we work closely with them. We monitor, we supervise, we collaborate with them to conduct these examinations and so it is not that we agree,” he added.
The 2025 WASSCE results have sparked public concern, with many questioning the standards of education in the country and the quality of graduates being produced.
Why over half of 2025 WASSCE candidates failed core mathematics - WAEC
According to a statement issued by WAEC on November 29, 2025, the subject results of over 6,000 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates have been cancelled.
The affected candidates were reported to have brought foreign materials, such as notebooks and printed papers, into the examination hall in an attempt to cheat during the exams.
