$20m earmarked for tarring of cocoa roads in W/R

Asankrangwa (W/R), Nov.17 - GNA- Mr. Alberto Samuel Tekyi, Wassa Amenfi West District Chief Executive, on Wednesday said the government has earmarked 20 million dollars for the tarring of roads in cocoa growing areas in the Western Region this year.

He was speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Asankrangwa Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana at Asankrangwa. Mr Tekyi said a total of 547 kilometres of cocoa roads would be tarred throughout the country by the end of the year.

He said in the district, Gravel Yard-Toronpan Road is among the roads to be tarred and this would cost 1.2 million dollars. Mr. Tekyi said the Asankrangwa-Moseaso road would also be tarred at the cost of 720,000 dollars.

He assured the people that the government was doing everything possible to make roads in the country motorable. Mr. Tekyi said the assembly was putting up teacher's bungalows at Agona Amenfi Methodist Primary School and Asankrangwa Catholic Junior High School.

Very Reverend Jonas Addai Antwi, the Circuit Superintendent Minister, called on Christians to lead lives worthy of emulation to enable them to win souls for the church.

Later, about 20 individuals, including Mr. Tekyi, Mr. John Gyetuah, Member of Parliament for the area and Mr. Kofi Tandoh, proprietor of Melody Hotel, were presented with certificates of honour. 17 Nov. 07
