The twenty-two students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) who were rusticated have been recalled to resume studies following a court order.

Other students that have already completed their studies are to be issued with their certificates after the academic board of the University approves at its next sitting this week.

The decision by the University of Cape Coast is in compliance with the interim orders of the Court of Appeal dated April 16, 2018.

The University has thus written to the students through their lawyer to take note and to inform the students accordingly.

Background

At least one student was left paralyzed while some others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a bloody clash between Atlantic Hall and Oguaa Hall at the University of Cape Coast.

Twenty-two students were rusticated by the management of the University for their purported roles in the clash.

The 22 students engaged the University in a legal tussle that spanned several months. The Court of Appeal finally ruled that the 22 students should be reinstated.

In a letter signed by the Director of Academic Affairs at the university, Jeff Teye Onyame, to the affected students through their lawyer, the University directed that the affected students are required to furnish the University with the list of courses registered in the second semester of the 2016/2017 academic year in order for their academic records to be updated to reflect their current status as pronounced by the courts

“The updated records of the students, shall in the case of students who have completed their program presented for approval by the academic board at its next meeting scheduled for the 2nd to 4th of May, 2018 as required by the statutes of the University of Cape Coast and subsequent issuance of certificates,” the letter stated.
