Member of Parliament for Ayensu –Ano Constituency in the Eastern Region, Sam Ayeh-Paye, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is poised to “sweep” 25 out of 45 constituencies, if the proposed constituencies are created.

He revealed that the NPP upon scientific research are highly convinced that it would at worst romp home with 25 of the proposed seats.

The lawmaker was commenting on the controversy surrounding the recommendation by the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Subsidiary Legislation Committee of Parliament, that the House rejects the Constitutional Instrument (CI) for the necessary corrections to be done by the Electoral Commission.

He affirmed that speculations that the Minority are challenging the CI for fear of the NDC increasing their seats if the new constituencies are created are palpable falsehood designed to attract hatred for members on the Minority.

“The NPP upon a survey are highly convinced that we are going to sweep not less than 25 seats, so the NDC should not think that we are afraid of the creation of the constituencies. What we are pushing is that the lawful procedure should be followed,” the MP added.

Parliament is however expected to debate on the recommendation by the Select Committee to enable them take finale decision on the matter.
