Three people are reported dead following a dawn gun battle between rival Kokomba and Bimoba ethnic groups in Nakpanduri in the Northern region.

Several houses have also been torched and ravaged. Sporadic gun shots are still ringing intermittently in parts of the area. The Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, and regional security officers are currently in the region on a working tour.

A former assembly man for the area, Alhassan Proferi who spoke to XYZ News has described the situation as worrying.

He said the case might escalate if the security agencies do not put measures in place to stop the mayhem. He therefore called on the IGp to ensure that all the culprits in the fire exchanges are made to face the full rigours of the law.

Meanwhile the disturbances have led to the temporary closure of all schools in the area. Moses Atiah, National Service Personnel teaching in one of the temporarily closed schools told XYZ News. “There is a secondary school just by stadium and the students are running [helter-skelter] just to save their lives... Everybody is running for safety.”

He said people who hail from adjoining villages and are in the area to attend school are going back home for fear of their lives.
