3 Die in Metro Mass Transit Bus accident

Tema, March 15, GNA -- Three people died on the spot and 60 others seriously injured when a Metro Mass Transit bus on which they were travelling along the Accra-Tema Motorway skidded off the road and landed in a ditch. A four-month old baby girl on board the vehicle however escaped unhurt.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Timothy Dassah, Ashaiman Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Commander said 49 of the injured and the dead were sent to the Tema General Hospital and morgue respectively, whiles the remaining injured were sent to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. One of the victims Emmanuel Bonsu, in an interview with the GNA disclosed that the Metro Mass bus with registration number GW 2034W, left Tema to Accra around 10 am when it was raining. He said on reaching a spot on the Motorway close to the Ministry of Agriculture station a vehicle crossed its path and in trying to avoid running into it the driver lost control of the steering and veered off the road into a ditch.
When GNA went to the General Hospital, Nurses on duty were busily treating the injured. In another development, a fire tender from the Tema office of the Ghana Fire Service, which was dispatched to the accident scene had an accident when an LT Benz Bus crossed its path. According to the Commander of the station Mr Paul Tamaklo, the driver and another officer in the front seat got injured and were also sent to the Tema General Hospital for treatment. Four other occupants however escaped unhurt.
