The Central Region recorded eight cases of road traffic accidents that left three persons dead, with 16 others sustaining various degrees of injuries during the Easter period.

Chief Superintendent Felix Kwasi Cosmos, Regional MTTU Commander, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency indicated that three of the cases were fatal.

He stated that Cape Coast Metro recorded four accidents, with Assin Fosu,Winneba, Kasoa and Elmina recording a case each.

C/Supt Cosmos further indicated that in all, 14 vehicles were involved in the accidents, five of which were commercial, with eight being private and a motor bike.

He said the figure as compared to the previous year's was low, and attributed it to the police education and the enforcement of road traffic regulation act and the public cooperation.

The police administration and the road safety commission organized a joint operation to educate drivers and passengers on the need to ensure accident free Easter.

He however, expressed worry over the lost lives through motor accidents saying that the police would not relent to intensify operations.

"We are not going to limit our education and sensitization to only occasions ...if we are not careful, we will be taken by events, so we must sustain it." he stated.
