30 health workers test positive for coronavirus in the Eastern Region

Nearly 30 health workers in the Eastern Region have tested positive for Covid-19.

The affected health workers are a mixture of those conducting contact tracing and those working in hospitals and other health facilities.

About eight (8) out of the total number have, however, recovered.

The inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has partly been blamed for high infection among health workers.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Juaben South Municipality (Koforidua) have jumped from 2 to twenty-four(24) within two weeks.

Out of the total number, only one(1) has recovered with one confirmed death being a Senior Police Officer who died May 29,2020.

Details about the new cases recorded in Koforidua are not known. However, sources from the Ghana Health Service indicate, the majority of the new confirmed cases were from among contacts traced.

The confirmed cases in New Juaben South Municipality-Koforidua and few other cases recorded in other districts have increased the Eastern Regional case count from 134 to 162 with about 100 recoveries.

Fifteen (15) out of thirty-three (33) Municipalities/Districts in the Eastern Region have recorded confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The Districts and Municipalities are Lower Manya Krobo, Asuogyaman, Akauapem North, New Juaben South,Denkyembuor ,Nsawam- Adoagyiri ,Fanteakwa North, Kwahu West, Birim Central ,Achiase ,Suhum , West Akyem ,Birim North ,Upper Manya Krobo ,and Akauapem North.

Meanwhile, at the national level, Four more people have died from COVID-19 in Ghana taking the death toll to 42, according to the latest figures by the Ghana Health Service.

Ghana’s case count now stands at 9,168 after 283 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, over 260 people who were infected with the virus have now recovered taking the country’s total recoveries to 3,457.

Active cases stand at 5,669.

The Ahafo region still remains the only region out of the 16 regions in Ghana yet to record a case of COVID-19 so far.
