The Nkoranza South Municipal Directorate of Education has trained 30 volunteers to visit schools in the communities to monitor teaching and learning to improve falling standards of education in the Municipality.
In addition, they would monitor activities of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parents-Teachers-Associations (PTAs) and ensure they played their respective roles as stakeholders of education in the communities.
This forms part of USAID sponsored educational project-Partnership for Accountable Governance in Education (PAGE) to promote quality teaching and learning in 46 selected nation-wide.
A Consultant for PAGE, Josephine Kuffuor-Duah addressing a day’s workshop for the volunteers on their operations at Nkoranza, expressed appreciation to them for offering themselves to serve their communities without any remuneration.
She stressed the need fo volunteers to keep accurate reports on their activities to enable the project identify major challenges facing education in basic schools to initiate the necessary strategies to address them.
Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South Municipal Director of Education, expressed appreciation to the services of the volunteers whose efforts would be a legacy for posterity in the communities.
She urged head teachers of basic schools in the Municipality to collaborate with the volunteers and offer them the necessary respect and encouragement towards the discharge of their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
Mr James Appiah, Community Participating Coordinator of the project at Nkoranza, advised the volunteers to submit monthly reports on time to maintain the enviable record of the Municipality towards the goals of the PAGE project.
