$30m Loan To Facelift Flagstaff House

Wed, 6 Jul 2005 Source: Ghanaian Times

After more than three decades of neglect, the Flagstaff House in Accra is to be renovated.

This has been made possible by a concessionary loan of 60 million dollars granted Ghana by India. The speculation is that Flagstaff House might now become the Presidential residence.

An agreement to that effect was signed between the two countries last Monday in Libya during bilateral talks here at the fifth ordinary session of the African Union (AU).

Nana Akufo Addo, Foreign Minister and the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr Rao Interjit Singh signed the agreement. Under the agreement, 30 million dollars will be used for the renovation of the Flagstaff House whilst the other 30 million dollars will go into improving rural electrification.

Flagstaff House was built immediately after Independence as residence and office of the Presidency.
