A total of 34,994 applicants were registered and issued with the biometric voter identification (ID) card in the Kwabre West and Afigya-Sekyere Constituencies during the first phase of the nationwide exercise.

“Out of the figure, 24,933 were in Kwabre West, and the remaining 10,061 in Afigya-Sekyere,” said Mr. Joshua Ofori-Prempeh, the District Electoral Officer, in an interview with the GNA, adding that the 10-day exercise took place in 37 registration centres.

He said the Old Atimatim registration centre recorded the highest turn-out of 2,248 applicants, with Maase coming next with 1,412, and followed by Bronkong RC’s 1,397 adding that the Aboabogya centre saw the least registration with only 428 people issued with voter ID cards.

He said in all, 10 applicants in the two constituencies had their eligibility challenged on the basis of their age and expressed satisfaction with the smooth and peaceful conduct of the registration praising the people for political maturity.

He said he was confident that this would be sustained throughout the 40-day period of voter registration.**
