The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Alhassan S. Tampuli, has disclosed that 37 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) outlets will soon be closed down.
The closure, according to Mr. Tampuli, was as a result of the danger they pose to the public.
“Thirty-seven outlets have been marked for closure when the level of their stocks reduce to levels within the safety zone. Twenty-six outlets have been reopened after comprehensive inspections were carried out by the Inspections and Monitoring Unit of the Authority. 114 were found to be in full compliance with the prescribed safety standards,” he disclosed at the launch of the National Petroleum Safety Campaign at the Fiesta Royale Hotel.
Mr. Alhassan Tampuli also added that out of the 636 registered number of refilling plants, 54 are not in operation.
He revealed that the NPA has put measures in place to assess the existing LPG infrastructure in the country for any mishaps.
“The Authority has constituted a committee to oversee the activities of a task force that will undertake a comprehensive risk assessment of the existing LPG infrastructure in the country,” he said.
The assessment of such LPG infrastructure will be based on factors such as the location of the station, engineering design and infrastructure, as well as operations and management of the station.
