Thirty-nine out of 51 drivers arrested between February 2 and 3 and put before various courts in Accra have been fined a total of seven million, 900 thousand cedis for refusing to place a triangle sign in front of their vehicles after developing mechanical faults and parking.
The Greater Accra Regional Commander of Police, Dr. K.K. Manfo disclosed this to The Accra Daily Mail at his office in Accra on Tuesday.
He said this situation has caused many accidents in the Metropolis and has prompted the police to intensify the arrest of drivers who default in road laws.
In another development, twelve suspected criminals were arrested at Adabraka Odawna near the Neoplan Station in an early dawn swoop following a tip off of criminal activities such as drug peddling and snatching of mobile phones and bags at gun point.
Dr. Manfo said 153 wrappers of cocaine were found on one of the suspects, Mensah Addy and 61 wrappers of Indian hemp were found on Joseph Kotey another suspect. Three ladies who were arrested in connection with the suspected criminals were bonded to be of good behaviour for six months while others were fined ?100,000 each. The two suspects with drugs have been remanded to appear before court.
Twenty suspects were also arrested in an uncompleted building at Adenta and Madina during a dawn swoop. They were put before an identification parade and screened.
