The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has disclosed that his outfit intends to terminate the 3rd Ring Road project in Tamale, due to the refusal of the contractor to heed the warnings of the Department of Urban Roads.

“The overall physical progress is projected at 9%, with about 87% of completion period elapsed. Works on site have slowed down. Instructions and warnings issued to the Contractor to speed up works on site did not yield any positive results. The Department of Urban Roads is in the process of terminating the project”, he explained.

The Minister added that the project was awarded on 26th July, 2016 and initial work on the project commenced on 6th September the same year. He said the estimated duration of the project was 15 months, but the project would have to be terminated due to its slow progress.

He explained that the termination of the contract will enable the ministry to repackage and re-award the project in order to ‘realize its objectives’, which include improving the livelihoods of the communities along the stretch.

The 3rd Ring Road project was initiated to decongest the Central Business District of Tamale Metropolis. It forms part of the North East section of the 3rd Ring Road, starting from the Tamale North through to Sagnerigu to Tamale South constituencies.
