Four people have been burnt to death following an accident at Yapei in the Savanna Region.
The deceased, three males and one female, were occupants of a Toyota Matrix vehicle, which was travelling from Kumasi to the Northern Region.
The saloon car with registration number GE 4126 – 11 is said to have run into the tipper truck which was travelling to Yapei from Tamale at about 1 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, on the Yapei Bridge, reports Class FM.
An eyewitness, Latif Aiddi Atingpo, told the Accra based radio station that the Toyota Matrix was speeding.
He said the driver of the truck and his assistant fled from their vehicle and left it in the middle of the road upon realising how fast the Matrix was approaching them.
He said the driver of the Toyota Matrix, who appeared to have lost control of the wheel, and was unable to apply the brakes, smashed into the tipper truck.
Fire is said to have instantaneously engulfed the two vehicles and burnt all four occupants in the Toyota Matrix along with the car itself even before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived to douse the blaze.
“Four people were in the Toyota Matrix and they all lost their lives. They were burnt to ashes,” the witness narrated.
He said the traumatised driver of the truck and his assistant collapsed out of shock.
They were later revived after some eyewitnesses poured water on them.
