Four persons are reported to have lost their lives in the rainstorm that hit Accra and its surroundings Sunday evening, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has said.

Two persons, a man and his child, were said to have been carried away in a pick-up vehicle they were travelling by flooding water at Flamingo near Kaneshie Zongo Junction in Accra.

The body of a man believed to have been drowned, was also discovered at Awudome after the rain stopped and the flooding water subsided.

The circumstances under which the fourth person died and where, according to the Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Archibald Cobbina, are not immediately known as the information was based on reports they received from residents.

Mr Cobbina said was therefore unable to give details on the incidents.

He told Bright Asempa, host of Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Monday morning that disaster management officials have been dispatched to the various locations where the rainstorm caused disaster to assess the extent of damage.

The heavy rains started in parts of Accra at about 5:30pm Sunday with thundering and lightening, leaving parts of the capital, mainly parts of Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Avenor, Dansoman, and Darkuman flooded.

Major roads and streets have been littered with debris, mainly plastics from chocked gutters. Some of the roads have also developed cracks and portholes.

The distribution lines of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana have caused power outages in most parts of Accra.

According to the PDS, its engineers are currently working around the clock to rectify the faults and restore power supply to the affected areas.
