The Weija District Court has remanded some four suspects arrested for harbouring two schoolgirls at Mallam-Gbawe.

The suspects whose ages range from 25 – 30 years, were, during a joint police operation between the Gbawe Lafa Police and Nyanyano District Police Command, arrested on February 14, 2020 at around 10:30 pm.

According to the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge, the four suspects, including a Nigerian - Kingsley Chidi, Samuel Otoo, Vincent Avi and Benjamin Mensah - sexually abused the two girls, both 15 years.

“On the 13th of February, 2020, an aunty to one of the victims received a telephone call from Samuel Otoo, to the effect that the victims were lodging at his end and requested for some changing clothes and more money for their up-keep since the girls had intentions of spending about a month with them. Luck eluded them when on the 14th of February, 2020, around 10:30 pm, a joint operation between the Gbawe Lafa Police and Nyanyano District Police Command, led to the arrest of all four suspects at their separate abodes in Kasoa,” the Police statement read.

Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for two more suspects identified as, Seth and Senior who also, while harbouring the girls, sexually abused them.

DSP Afia Tenge confirmed that the girls are receiving medical treatment.

The case will be heard again on February 28, 2020.
