Forty (40)-year Dorcas Agyei of Oguaa has been adjudged the overall best farmer in the Sekyere East District.
For her prize, she received a television set, a satellite dish, a bundle of roofing sheets, knapsack sprayer, wax print, radio set, wellington boots, cutlasses and certificate.
This was at a farmers’ day celebration, held at Motokrodua under the theme “Planting for food and jobs”.
Ms. Agyei has cultivated 50 acres of cocoa, 40 acres of plantain, 15 acres of maize and six acres of cassava.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Mary Boatemaa Marfo, underlined the government’s determination to transform the nation’s agriculture – increase crop production and returns.
She cited the supply of inputs including planting materials and subsidized fertilizer and strong extension support.
She said it was eager to make farming more rewarding and attractive to the unemployed youth.
The DCE hailed farmers for working hard to feed the nation and to keep the economy going.
