44-year-old farmer emerges as Volta Regional Best Farmer

Mr. Wisdom Aglago, 44, from Juapong in the North-Tongu District was on Friday named the best all-round farmer in the Volta Region.

The dreary and poorly attended ceremony was characterised by pockets of disapproval of the prizes assembled for distribution.

Mr. Aglago, who farmed maize, cowpea, cassava, oil palm and owns livestock, had a certificate, a shirt, a pair of boots, radio, agro-chemicals and a corn mill.

Winners in the 24 other categories had a certificate, bicycle, shirts, pair of boots, radio and agro-chemicals.

Col Cyril Necku, (Rtd), former Deputy Regional Minister was the best farmer in the fish-farming category.

Other winners in the categories include Wisdom Tenge, Abutia-Adegbleve, Ho Municipal Area, maize farming, Richard Agbenyega, Akrofu, Ho Municipal, rice, Solomon Anyabor, Kparekpare, Krachi-West, cassava, Binya Boateng, Alokpatsa, Nkwanta-South, yam and George Agbesime, Aglakope, Biakoye District, best fisherman.

Lovelace Jane Duhoe, the only female among the winners, was the best in small ruminants production.

Mr. John Tsrakasu, Regional Director of Food and Agriculture said the industrial action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana had affected the organisation of the programme.

Mr. Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister said government is continuing to support agriculture directly and indirectly to secure it as a crucial contributor to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
