Government of Ghana has signed an agreement with the Czech Republic for the construction of 50 new steel bridges across the country.
With an amount of over 47 million euros, these fifty bridges will be constructed in some selected communities across the 16 regions of Ghana.
“The government of Ghana is about to commence the construction of 50 steel bridges in selected communities across the country, following the signing of a credit facility agreement with the Czech Republic.
“It is a 47.5 million euro credit facility between the government of Ghana and the Czech Republic.”
As parts of infrastructural works of the Akufo-Addo administration, the Minister for Roads and Highways Kwesi Amoako Atta signed this agreement on behalf of the President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Ambassador of Czech Republic also signed on behalf of the Czech government.
According the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who was speaking at a press conference Wednesday, the project involves the design, supply and installation of the small and medium steel components for the construction of the new bridges and the replacement of some existing bridges on rivers and pedestrian bridges.
“The department of Feeder Roads will have 20 of those bridges, the Ghana Highway Authority will have 20 of those bridges for major highways and the department of Urban Roads will have 10 of those bridges for some urban road connections”, he stated.
He further noted that the project is estimated to be completed within a period of 24 months after commencement. And this project is expected to remove traffic blockages at river crossing and improve the movement of people and goods within the country.
“It is expected that at the end of the project all year round access to this facilities will be provided to eliminate any disruption and this should increase economy activity and the income of the people living within this areas.” He said.
