Senya Beraku (C/R), April 24, GNA - The Bishop of the Winneba Dioceses of the Methodist church, Right Rev. Dr. Joseph Ghunney has called on the leaders of the church, to assist in the training of the youth to enable them to translate their innate potential into reality. This he said is one sure way of solving the perennial problem of the rural-urban migration of the youth, in search of non-existing jobs. Bishop Dr. Ghunney made the call at the opening of the 49th Annual Synod of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church at Senya Beraku on Thursday.

The theme for the synod is "oneness in Christ-Our unity and Diversity". Members from the 252 branches of the church in Agona Swedru, Breman Asikuma, Apam and Winneba are attending the four-day synod, to take stock of the past year's performance and adopt new plans for the coming year, towards the promotion of the church. Bishop Ghunney hoped that they will have fruitful deliberations, which will enhance the development of the Diocese.

He said the regular visits by Local Managers, Education Committee Members, church leaders and local preachers to all Methodist schools in the area was a step in the right direction, since it is through this that, the doctrines and discipline of Methodism can be imbued in the children. He said the improvement in the performance of some of the Methodist schools, especially the Breman Asikuma Senior High, as indicated by the reports of the Regional Manager and the Headmistress respectively is a relief, from the abysmal and sinking academic performance of the children. Bishop Ghunney said, the committee set up to investigate the low standard of education in Methodist schools in the area, came up with some useful recommendation, which is being carefully considered for implementation. He said those who excelled would be given awards and commended at the synod, to serve as a moral booster and motivation. Mr Huhu Adams, District Chief Executive for Awutu-Senya called for unity among the people in the district to enable them to contribute towards the development of the area. He re-emphasized the urgent need for the state and the church to deepen the existing collaboration for the development of the country.
