Five persons have been arrested by the Salaga police in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region for their alleged roles in the death of two persons in the area.

They are David Dramani Alhassan, Alhassan Seidu, Amid Mahama, Soale Braimah and Zakaria Mumuni, who are currently in police custody in Salaga, pending prosecution.

Two brothers, Sibiku Moale 30 and Imoro Moale 25, were shot and killed by unknown assailants at Bunkpa, a farming community near Kpembi in the district.

According to police preliminary investigations, Sibiku was accused of sleeping with the wife of a neighbour and was hauled before one of the sub-chiefs at Kpembi.

He allegedly admitted the offence and was fined but pleaded with the chief and his council to allow him travel back to Bunkpa village in the company of his younger brother to bring back the money.

He did not return to the chief and his elders as indicated, until the decomposing bodies of the two brothers were found in bushes around Bunkpa days later.

According to the police, they were informed that a certain Alhassan was spotted riding a boxer motorbike with registration number NR-883-M-15, belonging to one of the deceased persons.

He was subsequently arrested and purportedly admitted that he had a hand in the death of the brothers; but did not kill them alone.

The suspect disclosed that the deceased persons were handed over to him by one person he identified only as Secret, a resident of Kpembi, since the Kanyasiwura was unable to settle the matter brought before him.

According to Alhassan, he and the other suspects took the deceased persons to Kpembi dam where they tortured them and later shot and killed them, but had to transport the bodies to the bushes close to Bunkpa, to cover up the act.

The suspects, Alhassan indicated, later sought the assistance of a spiritualist to fortify them in order not to be haunted by the ghosts of the two brothers; but this was leaked to the police who arrested them.

The bodies of the two have since been released to the family for burial while efforts are underway to arraign all the five before court on charges of conspiracy, abetment and murder.
