Five persons including an armed robbery convict have been arrested by the Prampram police in connection with the murder of a Chinese national on April 1 this year.

58-year-old Yoa Yong Xiang of TT Quarry was attacked by unknown assailants and smashed with a cement block to death by the robbers.

His attackers made away with seven mobile phones, 15,000 Chinese Yuan, GH¢ 37,000.00 and one HP laptop.

Confirming the arrest to MyNewsGh.com, the Prampram Divisional Crime Office Superintendent Cecilia Arko disclosed that the suspects were arrested at different locations based on police intelligence.

“The fifth suspect who is a convict who was arrested recently for his involvement in a daylight robbery at Tema Community 2. We have arrested him as well and will parade them before the media”, she disclosed.

It would be recalled that MyNewsGh.com in June this year reported of how the Chinese Embassy in Ghana bemoaned the insecurity in the country following the murder of eight of its nationals.

A leaked letter from the Ministry of the Interior sighted by this portal and signed by Adelaide Anno-Kumi (Mrs) Chief Director on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, directed the Inspector General of Police to act on the concern.

Excerpts of the reads “I forward, herewith, a copy of a note verbale No. 19-057 dated 8th April, 2019 received from the Chinese Embassy in Accra on the above subject matter. The Chinese Embassy Is by the letter under reference informing the Ghanaian authorities that eight (8) Chinese nationals have been killed under various circumstances In the country since 2018 with the latest being the killing of Mr. Yao Yong Xiang at TT Quarry in Tema on 1st April, 2019.

The Chinese Embassy is, therefore, seeking the support of the Ghana Police Service to safeguard the lives and properties of Chinese nationals in the country. Submitted for your necessary action, please”
