The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa training programme in financial journalism for journalists was launched in Accra at the Kempinski Hotel on Monday, 14 January 2018.

Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh noted in his speech that it was important for Africa to take advantage of the revolutionised way of disseminating information in finance, law, technology, health and others to improve the lives of people.

He also urged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to hone their skills with a view to making an impact on Ghana’s development agenda.

For his part, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah reiterated the government’s commitment to assisting media practitioners to enhance their capacity.

He encouraged the 50 selected delegates, including Ghanaian journalists, to use the platform to build their capacities to enable them comprehensively shape the African economic narrative to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa is a pan-African programme that builds media capacity, convenes international leaders and improves access to information in order to advance transparency, accountability and governance on the continent.

The initiative provides cross-disciplinary education programmes and mid-career fellowships to increase the number of highly-trained business and financial journalists, convenes pan-African fora to examine worldwide media best practices and supports research to stimulate media innovations
