The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has clarified that the 50 vehicles it received from the office of the President is a loan from the National Security for three months to intensify its campaign against COVID-19 disease.

There have been media reports that the NCCE which has been starved off resources in the past had been given vehicles to help with the fight against COVID-19.

But speaking on the Morning Starr on Monday, Ms Josephine Nkrumah, Chairperson of the Commission, disclosed that the vehicles are not for the commission but will be in their possession for only three months.

“The 50 vehicles have been loaned to us from the national security through the office of the chief of staff for 3 months…We are working through the chief of staff in the hope that they don’t come for it after the 3 months,” Ms Nkrumah told host Francis Abban.

She added that “we met the President and he said we should consider engaging other state institutions that are not very busy in times like these…this is more like a stop-gap measure.”

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Commission, Josephine Nkrumah says Members of Parliament who have contracted COVID-19 should be arrested if they insist on coming to the chamber.

“I think it is damn right preposterous and irresponsible. I think people should be made to answer for why they are endangering other lives. I don’t understand why some of the MPs have chosen to lament about it. It is almost nonsensical to think that this is going on.”
