Pollster Ben Ephson has suggested a six-year one-term-only presidency in Ghana as a means of fighting corruption.

According to him, no president should be allowed to run for re-election after the six-year term.

This, he said, will curb corruption in the country, as the head of state, at any particular time, will not be able to loot state coffers to sponsor his/her second term bid.

“There should be one-term of six years,” he told Felicity Nelson on Class91.3FM’s Straight Talk on Thursday, 11 July 2019, in response to the number of years presidents stay in office.

Mr Ephson was of the view that when a president realises that he/she has just a term to serve, he/she “will sit up”.

The pollster cited an example of how Ghana’s legislators got agitated and concerned when a recent survey by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Legon suggested that more than 50 per cent of them risked losing their seats if elections were held at the time of the release of the report.
