A total of 60 electronic libraries are to be established across the country as part of Ghana’s 60 years anniversary celebration.
The establishment of the e-library would help deprived areas in the country to develop skills in computer education, as well as replace the old educational system with a contemporary one where ICT will be more practical. Each library will have five functional areas; an e- zone, a children’s corner, a librarian and an assistant, traditional book library and a mobile library.
The idea behind the e-book is to have computers, laptops, with full internet service and electronic book that will allow students to familiarize with computer, Chairman of the media sub-committee of the anniversary committee, Jefferson Sackey, has said.
The librarian and their assistant are going to be key success of the project, he added, noting that patrons who are going to supervise the project would be trained to assist users of the library on how to search for information, use emails and other online services. Mr Sackey said the project would be completed within a year.
The Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh said Ghana has only 60 public libraries at the moment, noting the e-library will be an addition which will serve the beneficiary communities.
