63rd UN General Assembly in New York

In the sidelines of the 63rd UN General Assembly in New York, President Kufuor has held bilateral meetings.

First to meet President Kufuor was H. E. Dr. Ralph E. Gonzales, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Speaking to the Ghanaian media after the meeting H. E. Dr. Gonzales said their discussion centered on matter of mutual interests which include trade, tourism and education with emphasis on student exchange programmes.

The Secretary-General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer who met President Kufuor next, expressed the interest of his organization to support Africa with training to stregthen its forces in general security and peace-keeping. He intimated that he would pay a visit to the Kofi Annan Centre for Peace-Keeping in Ghana.

Mr. Juan Somavia, Secretary-General of the International Labour Oorganization also called to express his gratitude and that of International Labour for the contribution of President Kufuor, while in office as Chairman of the AU and also as President of Ghana. The Secretary-General of ILO presented President Kufuor with a booklet: 'ILO Declaration on Social Justice and Globalization', which he said was as a product of contribution of President Kufuor and other leaders around the world.

On his part, President Kufuor expressed his gratitude Mr. Juan Somavia, Secretary-General of the International Labour Oorganization for acknowledging and appreciating his contributions the service of humanity.
