66 Artillery assists cured lepers in Ho

The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho (Volta Barracks), on Saturday presented assorted items worth GH? 1,500 to cured lepers at the Schoonhoven village in Ho.

The Regiment also presented cash amount of GH? 500 to caretakers of the village to support the inmates.

The assorted items include; bags of maize, rice, gari, cartons of fish, cartons of milk and gallons of cooking oil.

Lieutenant Colonel Seidu Abass, Commanding Officer of the Regiment, who made the presentations said the gifts was to show their support to the village after the Unit’s return to Ghana from serving in the United Nations Mission in Liberia from January 12 to July 30 2012.

He said it was also to thank God for the safe return of personnel of the Regiment to peacekeeping operations in Liberia.

“This is to show how grateful we are to God for His mercies on us in far away Liberia and back,” Lt. Col. Abass said.

He was hopeful that the gesture would enhance the Regiments relationship with civil society.

Mr. Anthony Adjavon, Volta Regional Technical Person in charge of Leprosy, expressed gratitude to the Regiment for thinking about the less privileged in society.

The Regiment formed the nucleus of UNMIL GHANBATT 15 which served in the Republic of Liberia from January 12 to July 30, 2012.

The Regiment would organize a non-denominational thanksgiving service tomorrow, Sunday August 19 at the Regiment Chapel.
