Bolgatanga, Aug. 17 GNA - Mr Bruce Ayisi, Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said 69,591 people registered when the voters' register was opened recently.

The opening of the register was to give those who had reached the age of 18 years and above a chance to register.

Out of that number, 34,650 were female while 34,941 were male.

Mr Ayisi disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday.

The district with the highest turn out was the Bawku municipality with 9,466 people registering, while Builsa came out with the lowest of 3,755.

Mr Ayisi noted that even though the exercise was a success there were some challenges on nationality.

He explained that issues came up where people challenged others on their nationality and so district registration review committees were setup to look into them.

Mr Ayisi commended the people in the region for their cooperation during the voter's registration and the recent voters register exhibition exercise as well as the NPP flag bearer elections.
