The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in Ghana, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, today opened the 6th Council of Ministers Meeting and Experts Meeting of the Consultative International Cashew Council (CICC) in Accra.

The event, scheduled for April 18th and 19th, 2024, aims to focus on value addition, research, productivity improvement, technology, innovation, and human capital capacity development in the cashew sector.

In addition to the CICC meeting, Ghana is hosting its first Cashew Fair at Efua Sutherland Park. The fair, which began today, is themed "Projecting the Cashew Sector through Local Consumption, Value Addition, and Job Creation."

The event showcases cashew-derived products, promoting local consumption and emphasizing the importance of local consumers in the sector's sustainable development.

The cashew industry plays a significant role in Ghana's economy, generating around $300 million in export revenue in 2023.

The government acknowledges the importance of collaborative partnerships with the private sector and development partners like GIZ/MOVE, the EU, the African Cashew Alliance (ACA), Olam Foods Ingredients, Procashew, and Prosper Cashew in achieving agricultural modernization and transformation.
