73rd Remembrance Day Parade held in honour of Veterans by Ghanaian Battalion in Lebanon

The centenary celebration of the end of World War I has been marked in Lebanon by Ghana Battalion 85 at the Headquarters in Al-Qawzah in South Lebanon.

Also known as the Armistice Day, the ceremony, which is held at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, every year, is to remember those who sacrificed their lives in World Wars 1 and 2.

Countries all over the world mark this day with parades in which two minutes’ silence and the sounding of the siren is observed to remember those who sacrificed their lives for world peace.

The Day is also used to remember those who have died in other conflicts around the world including those deployed on peacekeeping duties.

The occasion was graced by Brigadier General Diodato Abagnara, the Sector West Commander, who expressed his gratitude to all peacekeepers, especially the Ghanaian peacekeepers for paying the ultimate prize as well as those who continued to offer their invaluable service, honour and contribution towards peace in the world.

Special prayers were said by the Chaplain, Major Reverend Cynthia Kumitse and the Imam, Flying Officer Moucharoudine Saddique Maiga for all ex-servicemen and peacekeepers.

A wreath laying ceremony was also held in which three wreaths were laid on behalf of personnel of UNIFIL GH 85, the Ghana Armed Forces and Veterans.

Lt. Col. Fiifi Deegbe, the Commanding Officer, laid the wreath for UNIFIL GH 85, Colonel Robert Ayitey Ayi, the Contingent Commander, laid for the Ghana Armed Forces and Brigadier General Diodato Abagnara, the Sector West Commander, laid for the Veterans.
