Chiraa (B/A), Aug. 23 GNA - The Seventh National Cadet Corps Leadership Training Camp meeting for 2009 ended at the weekend at Chiraa in Brong- Ahafo with a call on the youth to be disciplined. The camp was under the theme: "Discipline and Loyalty - The Role of the Student Cadet in Education". Mr Eric Opoku Manu, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, who made the call, noted that discipline was vital in the building of a stable society.
"It is with this view that the National Cadet Corps under the auspices of the Ministry of Education decided to bring together willing candidates from the 10 regions to the leadership training camp to instil disciplines in them through education", he said. Mr Manu bemoaned the limited number of cadet corps in the region and urged that efforts be made by authorities to consider recruiting some of the students of schools in the region as cadet corps to enable them to spread the message of discipline and inculcate in people the spirit of patriotism.
He challenged youth organisations and various districts in the country to emulate the voluntary services cadet corps rendered in Brong-Ahafo as well as urged them to assist in sustaining such services. In a speech read for him Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education said government would continue to support the tertiary, polytechnic and vocational institutions to build human resource capacity needed for the nation's development. He said the training provided to the cadets would enable them to not only develop themselves but also become alive to their communal responsibilities.
Mr Tettey-Enyo added that "the rapid growth of cadetting in the various educational institutions has necessitated the re-establishment of a national desk in the Ministry of Education". He said this was why the Ministry had attached much importance to the cadet corps since it presented opportunities to members to discover their own abilities and the nation as a whole. "To this end, the Ministry will continue to offer the necessary assistance to the national cadet corps to enhance its youth development activities.
Barima Mintah Afari II, chief of Chiraa later accompanied the Deputy Minister of Education, who read the sector Minister's address, Mr Manu and some officials of the National Cadet Corps to inspect some on-going projects.
The projects comprised a dining hall block for Chiraa Senior High School, girls' dormitories for Chiraa Islamic Basic School and the Seventh Day Adventist Basic School. Mr Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifo, National Cadet Coordinator, advised the youth in the community not to rely solely on politicians or leaders to solve their problems but must believe in themselves that with a can-do-spirit they could realize their aspirations. 23 Aug. 09
