Ghana is a beautiful mixed bag of amazing people from different backgrounds, lifestyles and cultural traits.

However, have you ever wondered who fit into Ghana’s version of ‘high society’ families; leaving legacies and sitting on mountains of drool-worthy inheritances?

YEN.com.gh, in no particular order, has identified some of the families (that we think) fit the bill of the most influential Ghanaian families:

1. The Ashanti Royal Family

The king of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his family are the rulers of the largest and most powerful kingdom in the country.

2. The Nduom Family

Paa Kwesi Nduom owns the Groupe Nduom conglomerate, which includes the GN Bank, Coconut Grove Hotels, Gold Coast Security and Ghana Media Group among other subsidiaries.

3. The Awuah-Darko family

Owners of the Vanguard Group, this family has entrenched its name in the financial services industry, and also own the prestigious insurance company, Vanguard Assurance.

4. The Rawlingses

The former first family undoubtedly have their name entrenched in Ghana’s legacy, which is already being continued through the eldest child, Zanetor Rawlings who is already making her mark in Ghanaian politics.

5. The Botchway Family

Emmanuel and Regina Botchway own the Regimanuel Gray Estates, a prime estate development company that has built numerous classy homes for over 24 years.

6. The Kufuor family

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has eased slowly into retirement but his family’s name still packs quite the punch in the ‘big circles’ in Ghana.

7. The Duffuor Family

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor heads this family which currently owns Unibank, EIB network, Star Assurance among other companies.

8. The Akpo Family

Headed by James Akpo, better known as Togbe Afede XIV who is chairman of the Volta House of Chiefs. He co-founded Data Bank, and founded the SAS group of companies.
