A herd of 80 cattle belonging to nomadic Fulani herdsmen at Dumso, a community in the Kintampo South District of the Brong Ahafo region, have been slaughtered in fresh tensions between cattle herders and locals of the community.

The incident occurred on the outskirts of the community Wednesday February 10, 2016.

Accra FM’s correspondent in Kintampo, Kweku Ampofo, told Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5fm's breakfast show, Ghana Yensom, that the latest disturbances erupted after the youth of Dumso, led by their organiser, Haruna Dramani, lodged a complaint with the Kintampo Police Monday February 8, 2016 over continued destruction of their farms by cattle belonging to the Fulani. They suspect the herders came in with their cattle from Mali.

But the herdsmen, unhappy with the action, threatened some couples of the town working on their farms that they would attack anyone, who would want to kill their cattle.

These couples returned to inform the community of the threats made by the Fulani men. Incensed by the Fulani threat, the youth of the area trooped to the farms to confront the herdsmen and, in the process, butchered scores of cattle, estimated at 80.

The Kintampo police have dispatched a team to the scene to deal with the situation.
