9 cattle of mine have been killed in Agogo - Gruzah

Founder of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, has said nine of his cattle have been killed at Agogo in the Asante Akyem North district in the Ashanti Region.

The businessman recounted to Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA) on Asempa FM’s Ekosii S?n political talk programme on Thursday 4 February, 2016 that the caretaker of the cattle informed him about the loss recently. “I’ve been told that they were killed as they went to graze, about nine of them, my caretaker said he saw them dead.”

The situation in the area has become volatile with clashes between the residents of Agogo and Fulani herdsmen leading to the death of at least 25 locals and an unknown number of Fulanis.

The nomadic herdsmen have been terrorising inhabitants of the area by allegedly destroying farmlands, killing indigenes and also raping local women.

The youth have warned citizens of Agogo not to render any kind of services, such as selling of food items, farm implements, tools, and transport services to the Fulani.

They are also demanding an eviction of the Fulanis by authorities, else they will take matters into their own hands. Reports indicate that local farmers in the area have started arming themselves with guns of various sorts to fight off aggression from the nomads. Meanwhile security has been beefed up in the area to flush out the herdsmen.

Alhaji Gruzah said: “Somebody has killed my cattle when I haven’t destroyed anybody’s property. I have nothing to say but to leave to God. I have no strength to go and fight anyone. My cattle have not destroyed anybody’s farm. If my cattle destroyed anyone’s farm and the victim cannot come and inform me, he can go to the police and report it. You don’t kill cattle for destroying farms, even if that happens, you go and report to the police and demand compensation from the owner of the cattle,” he lamented.
