The leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dan Lartey has stated that the formation of the Grand Coalition of the Nkrumahists family will break the myth surrounding the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said 90 per cent of the entire NDC membership are Nkrumahist oriented and, therefore, consider the Grand Coalition as the home of progressive Nkrumahists family, which they are ready to join.

In an interview with “The Evening News,” Mr Lartey, who is also the chairman of the Coalition, said the 2004 elections would be a straight contest between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his group. “Come 2004, the contest would be between the incumbent - the NPP and the Grand Coalition,” he stressed.

He said the Grand Coalition, which was picked from a position of strength had now assumed a position of winning the 2004 elections.

“This is not a gain-saying, this is a fact. It is also a fact that we are a formidable force and our comrades who are in transit and are in the NDC and the NPP will surely join us”.

He added, “All of them have given the assurance that they are with us”. The chairman of the Grand Coalition said the group had announced it debut and “it is now a political force that has taken the vim and heat from the NDC. All of them know that with this formation, we are going to be in safe hands”.

He disabused the minds of the Ghanaian electorate that elections in Ghana are a contest between the NPP and the NDC, which are described as the two major political forces in the country.
