?95 Million Food Processing Centre Commissioned in Tamale

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Jean Michel Barrit has hinted that the French Government is fully determined to support the three Northern Regions in their development efforts because the North has been left behind in terms of development.

Jean Michel Barrit made this statement during the commissioning of a ?95 million Food Processing Centre for five Disable Associations at Nyohani, a suburb of Tamale

The Food Processing Centre which is made up of Rice Hauler, Sheanut Crusher, kneader – for extraction of sheabutter, Electric Cornmill and a Diesel Engine Cornmill was funded by the French Embassy and supervised by the Action for the Disability and Development (A.D.D.) Ghana.

The Ambassador stated that, the Food Processing Centre is aimed at improving the social status of the disabled, and therefore called on the Society to give maximum attention to the Disabled.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Issah Ketekewu thanked the French Government for their numerous assistance to Ghana in general and the Northern Region in particular.

Mr. Ketekewu explained that, the food Processing Centre will not only make life comfortable for the disabled but also their dependants.

He called on the able in the society to support the disabled in all their endeavours.

The deputy minister appealed to the French Government through the ambassador to make more support available to Ghana.

On his part, the Country Director of A.D.D. Ghana, Mr. Thomas Issah, disclosed that the French Government donated ?190 million for two Food Processing Centres in Tamale and Bolgatanga.

The Country Director appealed to the Government and Parliament to pass the Disability Bill to law by the end of the year to help protect and safeguard the disabled. Earlier in a representative of the disabled in Tamale, Mr. Prince Mahama called on the Government to set up a special fund to cater for the progress and the well being of people with disability.

Prince Mahama thanked the French Government for its support and added that the Food Processing Centre will serve as a source of income and employment for the disabled.
