A 1993 attempted murder case revived at Tamale High Court

The trial of Owusu Frimpong, 33, a local soap maker, charged with attempted murder, for pouring acid on the face of a co- tenant and stabbing another in the abdomen has resumed at a Tamale High Court after seven years.

The incident happened in 1993 but the trial was delayed following the transfer of the judge, who started it.

Frimpong, who pleaded not guilty, was released on a one million cedi bail to reappear on 29 February.

Prosecuting, Senior State Attorney, Mr Solomon Atadze told the court presided by Mr Justice R. T. Aninakwah that Frimpong lived in the same house with Azure Azubira and Bille Aboriyaba, the complainants at Sakasaka in Tamale.

Mr Atadze said in early 1993, Frimpong proposed love to the daughter of Azubira, who declined because she was still young and pursuing training as an apprentice seamstress.

This did not go down well with Frimpong, who allegedly developed hatred for Azubira and his family.

On 12 November 1993 when Azubira returned from work, his daughter, Aponyaga Azure, reported to him that Frimpong had removed his (Azubire) clothes together with the drying line on which she hanged them.

When Azubira asked Frimpong about the report, it developed into exchange of insults and a fight.

A co-tenant Bille Aboriyaba, who attempted to separate them, was pushed down and Frimpong poured caustic soda acid on his face, blinding him.

Frimpong rushed into his room, picked a knife and again dared Azubira to a fight during, which they both fell down.

Frimpong removed the knife from his pocket and stabbed Azubira in the abdomen and hit his head with a pestle.

On hearing the commotion, Aponyaga called for help and her father was rushed to the hospital while Frimpong was handed over to the Police.
