A ?70m Clinic At Ananekrom Commissioned

A ?70-MILLION clinic has been commissioned at Ananekrom in the Afram Plains, Agogo area in the Asante Akim North district.

The clinic was put up by the Ghana government in collaboration with the European Union Micro Project.

The District Chief Execurtive (DCE) for Asante Akim North, Mr. George Frimpong, commended the EU for their tremendous assistance for their developmental efforts in Ghana.

He said the commissioning of this project also signifies the commissioning of all the 12 projects under the 5th Micro Project Programme which has led to the execution of a number of projects in the district since 1997.

Frimpong stressed that the primary objective of the district assembly is to improve the living conditions of people in the communities.

He pointed out that over the years the district assembly in collaboration with central government has provided infrastructural facilities to improve the standard of living of the people.

According to the DCE, the district assembly contributed ?26 million and the community also contributed ?10 million in the form of labour and provision of local materials.

He assured the people of Asante Akim North that there is increased demand on the district assembly to provide more services to the area.

The project manager, Dr. Kwaku Sarfo, commended the people for their wholehearted support for the EU micro project.

He stated that since the inception of the Micro Project in 1990 they had completed 1,855 projects throughout the country.

He noted that the Ashanti Region alone has 420 projects and because of their maximum support in terms of labour they will continue to assist the region, especially the Asante Akim North district.

He advised the community to take good care of the clinic so it serves them far into the future. Nana Akuoko Sarpong, Agogohene, appealed to the EU and the Ghana government to assist the whole country to replant trees because of deforestation problems in Ghana, particularly Agogo Afram Plains.

He stated that he had initiated more than 200 acre tree planting throughout the area and he would continue to do so.

He warned chainsaw operators to stop felling trees in the country otherwise all our lands will be turned into deserts so they should be protected now.

Mr. Wim Olthof, Economic Adviser of the European Commission in Ghana, thanked the community for putting up such a stately clinic for the area.

He said it is their aim to put up health centers in deprived areas throughout the country in order to move the nation forward.

The local community and the district assembly presented a Kente cloth and a carved stool to Wim Olthof.
