The Ghana Police Service and the Attorney-General’s Department have been urged to do due diligence to the investigations and prosecution of the suspected murderers of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama.

The former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie who made the appeal said: “lawyers look for loopholes so if your facts are not strong, then at the end of the day, the good people of Ghana will cry foul because the suspects would be set free”.

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislator was contributing to discussions on the burial of the late Major Mahama on TV3’s New Day on Friday hosted by Bright Nana Amfoh. “A lot of responsibility is now on the police and the A-G must also do its best to ensure that they support the prosecution”, the MP added.

Mr. Tetteh Chaie said “they [police] should ensure that right thing are done before the prosecution begins.

They should ensure that those who are brought to book are not the ones that are not connected to the issue”.

“They need to be meticulous. They must do a due diligence in gathering their facts to support the case because we are in a civilized world so we have moved away from that barbaric act” the MP observed.

A legal practitioner and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national communications team, Garry Nimako, observed that “there is a total disregard for rule of law and no society will survive when people are lawless”.

He added that “the police must do diligent work by making sure everyone whose image is on the video being circulated in the social media will be arrested and prosecuted”.

“We beg the police; they should make sure they take their time to arrest all of them and prosecute them”, the lawyer pleaded.
