A GH¢65,000 Office Complex Inaugurated for MVP

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Aug 29, GNA - A GH¢65,000 office complex for the United Nations Millennium Village Project (MVP) has been commissioned at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West District. It comprises of eight rooms, one conference centre and stores. The District Chief Executive, Mr. Ben Kwakye Adeefe, said since the inception of the MVP two years ago, it has supported the district with a lot developmental projects in the Bonsaaso cluster area in health, education, agriculture and infrastructures. He said the Project is working within 30 communities with a population of 30,000.

The Project Team and Cluster Manager, Mr. Samuel Asare Afram, said the goals of the project are to extremely reduce poverty on the part of the people in the cluster. He said apart from construction of schools, clinics among others, the inhabitants have been trained in new methods of farming to enable them produce more yield, scholarship packages have been given to the needy but the brilliant students in the cluster who are in Senior High Schools (SHS).

Support has also been given to 62 untrained teachers to pursue their Diploma Education Course in Wesley College in Kumasi. Mr. Afram said people in the Bonsaaso cluster have been given free insurance cards to attend hospital.

Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, Omanhene of Manso-Nkwanta Traditional Area, thanked President John Agyekum Kufuor for selecting the district. Nana Appiah also commended the Management of MVP for their developmental projects to improve the living standards of the people. He appealed to the UNDP to consider extending its operational periods in the Amansie West from five to 10 years to enable projects cover many parts of the district. Nana Appiah said since the project is benefiting the whole community no individual could claim any compensation for any piece of land acquired for the project.
