A billion-cedi for rural development projects

Kade, Oct 05, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District received a grant of 934,976,000 cedis to implement the first phase of the Community-Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) for the years 2005/2007. The CBRDP had been designed to replace the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP).

Announcing this at a meeting of the District Assembly at Kade on Monday Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, the District Chief Executive, said of the amount 280,492,000 cedis, representing 30 per cent of the total amount, had been earmarked this year to start construction of some projects. These include a block of three classrooms for the Presbyterian Junior Secondary School at Tweapease, block of six classrooms for the Roman Catholic Primary School at Kade and a slaughterhouse at Boadua. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the grant would be released on yearly basis for the three projects.

He said rural enterprises in the district would also benefit from a micro-credit scheme and individuals and groups may apply for the facilities through the accredited participating financial institution, the Atiwa Rural Bank.

Under the programme, two area councils at Okumaning and Oseawuo would be trained in planning, implementation and management of development initiatives.
