A country's development is depended on the nutrition of its people

Yendi, (N/R), Sept 15, GNA- Professor Saa Dittoh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has stated that the level of development of every nation depends on the nutritional status of its people.

He noted that many policy makers and politicians do not recognize the important links between the provisions of nutritious and balanced diets to its people, noting that most of the policy makers were rather focused on building structures which he said did not constitute development. Professor Dittoh was addressing a three-day National Training Course on Capacity Building and Advocacy on food and nutrition security for health in the Yendi District on Thursday.

The workshop was organised by the food and nutrition security unit of the UDS in collaboration with Wageningen University in the Netherlands for principal officers in the Yendi, Zabzugu/Tatale, Saboba/Chereponi, Gushegu, Nanumba, Karaga and East Gonja Districts.

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) sponsored the course, Farmer Project of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture with the objective to equip participants with concepts and understanding of nutrition security.

Professor Dittoh remained Ghanaians that, " The future of nations and communities are critically dependent on the level of nutrition of households, especially women and children."

Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani Yendi District Chief Executive urged district assemblies to support the UDS third Trimster Field practical programme where students spend time in the communities for data collection.

He said the government was doing all in its capacity to address the accommodation, transportation and other facilities in the UDS.
