ACP Awuni bemoans unprofessional reportage

Tamale, July 6, GNA - Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander, has expressed concern about unprofessional reportage by some media houses in the Tamale Metropolis, particularly, the FM stations.

He noted that a radio station aired a story last Monday morning that there had been gun shots in some parts of the metropolis, but turned out to be false and urged the media to cross-check any such information with the police to sustain the prevailing peace in the Region.

ACP Awuni expressed the concern during a visit to Ghana News Agency (GNA) Office in Tamale on Monday as part of a familiarization tour of some media establishments in the metropolis.

The visit was also to enable him to acquaint himself with the operations of the media in the Region and help strengthen the already cordial working relationship between the police and the media. He also visited Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Daily Graphic, Metro TV, Justice and Fiila FM radio stations. ACP Awuni said: "The doors of the police are always open to the media and I hope that the cooperation between us would yield fruitful dividends. I am a media practitioner and would be grateful to work with the media".

He urged the media to support the police build a peaceful and orderly society.

Mr Paul Osei-Tutu, Northern Regional Manager of GNA commended ACP Awuni for showing solidarity with the media He pointed out that GNA had always remained credible and would continue to provide Ghanaians with unbiased news.
